Frequently Asked Questions:
What is Live Painting?
Live Painting is an improvisational performance in which a visual artist, usually accompanied by a DJ or live Music, over a short period of time, creates a painting to the beat of the music in front of an audience. Unlike a traditional setting in which a painter works privately in an enclosed studio over an extended period of time and shares his or her work only after it is completed in a gallery or another exhibition setting, Live Painting allows the audience to watch the creative process unfold from beginning to completion within a short period of time in a public setting.
Why choose Blair Rusin to live paint at your event?
Blair Rusin is a professional Live Painter who not only creates a finished piece of modern abstract or realistic art during your event, but he also aims to truly engage, entertain and expose the audience to his creative process. He paints quickly, adapts easily to the energy of the event, and captivates his audience easily by painting to the rhythm of the music and by painting a subject matter that captures the special moments of each event. If you want something different to spice up the energy at your event, Blair is the artist to contact.
What needs to be provided for the artist at my event?
Although space and lighting accommodations may depend on the venue and the size of the desired painting, generally, the artist will need a minimum space of about 6′ x 6′ and an electrical outlet nearby (if the event is held indoors). Gino brings all live painting related materials including an easel, canvas, paint, brushes, palette, drop cloths, plastic, clip-on lights, and a small table for his art materials. (for local events)
For national and International events a table and easel must be provided by the client.
Does the paint smell, will there be any paint spills after the event?
No. Blair uses acrylic fine art paint which are water-soluble and do not emit any odors. His painting space is covered with drop cloths and plastic to prevent any paint from the surrounding areas.
Will the artist be annoyed if guests watch and ask questions as he paints?
No, Blair is accustomed to painting in public spaces and welcomes questions about his art and creative process during the event.
Do I have the option of keeping the paintings?
Yes. If you would like to keep the paintings created at the event you can choose to do so with the applicable rates mentioned above. Keeping the original paintings is a great option if you would like to keep a memorable record of your event or if you would like to auction off the painting for your organization's fund-raising goals.
